Presentation of String instruments in Kindergarten - Little cellist and little guitarist

A little cellist in kindergarten

Children seem to be more impressed with a new idea when it also comes from children. This was confirmed by the visit of a little cellist and a little guitarist to our kindergarten.

The two young musicians were taking similar lessons in a conservatory and were invited to give a presentation of their musical instruments. The presentation included a brief reference to the history of the instruments, a demonstration of their individual parts (eg strings, bridge, fingerboard, etc.) and the special equipment that accompanies them (music stand, guitar footstool, bow, score, etc.), marking of the specific way in which musicians sit and hold their musical instrument, as well as a performance of short musical pieces. In the end, the children of the kindergarten, strongly expressing their desire to "play" with the musical instruments, tried to hold them and produce sound.

It should be noted that the above presentation, as is usually the case in kindergarten, was the trigger for further investigation and engagement with the subject, such as videos of musical performances, introduction and distinction of subcategories of strings (eg violin family, plucked instruments, etc.), reading relevant fairy tales, artistic approach, musical games, worksheets, etc.
